The AWC has served as an active volunteer partner to The Soup Kitchen at the American International Church for more than 10 years. The Soup Kitchen serves a balanced, hot breakfast and lunch to more than 100 rough sleepers every day. In recent years, the number of guests has doubled due to the growing homeless population in central London.
Per a long-standing tradition, 8–10 AWC volunteers have helped prepare and serve food at the Soup Kitchen every other Monday morning. In addition, we have been responsible for staffing the shelter's Clothes Closet, which distributes clothing and personal items to men and women in need.* Questions? Fundraising for the Soup Kitchen
In 2018, the AWC donated a clothes washer and dryer for clients to use at the facility.
In 2019 we raised a record amount of money for the Soup Kitchen at our annual Founders’ Day Charity Gala and funded their daily milk supply.
In 2020 we raised over £7,200 through our successful Holiday Charity Appeal — enough to cover all food and operating costs at the Soup Kitchen for one full month.
*Please note that we are not currently providing in-house help, due to government regulations and COVID-19.
